I strive to find universally appealing and relatable imagery to draw people into more challenging conversations. My latest work, 'Lingering Ghosts, Chaos and Recovery,’ is my most personal artwork and was created in a style very new to me. The art features a mixed media approach to addressing the chaos substance abuse leads to and the profound emotional and psychological realities its impact has on individuals and their families, focusing on chaotic and choppy, while also being full of patterns and symmetry along the recovery trail. In the artwork, 'Chaos and Recovery #1’, a figure can be seen hanging precariously above the psychological chaos of substance abuse. My journey, which involves supporting family members and close friends, is my source of inspiration, highlighting the beauty, fragility, harmony, and conflict I’ve observed and how they have affected me personally. For me, art has become both an anchor and a safe harbor. Understanding and empathy are as important to recovery as air is to breathe. If addiction is the dark alley someone you know walked into alone, it's our job to be the light that guides their way back to us.
