Catharsis

Some background on my piece, "Catharsis." This work began as a long-overdue spray paint experiment, which I developed after aborting a failed landscape that served as the underpainting. After the spray paint dried, I referenced a photo of a painting I sold years ago, seeking to reconnect with the inspiration I felt at that time. As I attempted to scale the drawing onto this larger canvas using acrylic paint marker, the process evolved. The work became a way to process pain unearthed by seasonal depression, transmuting it into a spring blossom of new oil and acrylic paint colors. If you look closely, you can find "ghosties" of the original underpainting winking back from beneath the surface.
